Humpback Whales of Canada's Rain Coast

DSC_1550Photographing whales is one of my favorite things to do. The humpback's along Canada's Rain Coast gave me glimpses of behavior that I'd never seen before. Sure, there was breaching and fin slapping, but there was also bubble net feeding. Three whales would swim in a circle around a school of fish blowing bubbles to form a massive cylinder of air. As the fish, scared by the bubbles, moved to the center of the circle, the whales would dive and then lunge vertically through the fish - mouths open, eating everything in sight. Amazing.
