Now we come to Africa's least known super predator. Sometimes called painted dogs, the African Wild Dog is a ferocious pack hunter. A pack of dogs can outlast almost any antelope over long distances and their pack hunting techniques are extraordinarily successful. They catch prey 70 to 90 percent of the time whereas lions are only successful 30 to 40 percent of the time. Sadly habitat loss has reduced them to borderline extinction - most organizations place their numbers at two to three thousand worldwide.
