I still can't believe I live so close to an active whale habitat. All it took was to roll out of bed at 4:30 and drive for a bit over an hour to be on the water as the sun came up. The mile deep Monterey Canyon attracts a large concentration of humpbacks - yesterday we saw over 30 in the course of 4 hours. I love how the light changed over the morning. First came the soft yellows of dawn that gently lit the mist from the whale's blows. Over time the yellow light was replaced with deep ocean blues. Such a wondrous sight!
