After months at sea they arrive unerringly at the place of their birth to mate and pup. The feats of navigation in their long journeys are truly extraordinary. They cross the globe in straight lines, never deviating by more than a few degrees from their final destination. While the exact mechanism they use to navigate is not fully understood, it seems they use a magnetite deposit in their eyes to follow the Earth’s magnetic fields.
